Disney's Wilderness Lodge & Villas

Located near Magic Kingdom but off the monorail line, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a fabulous option for guests wanting to stay near the flagship park at a slightly lower rate.  This resort is also a top recommendation for guests visiting during the holidays, as they offer a homey yet awe-inspiring atmosphere during November and December.

Lobby

The breathtaking lobby alone is worth a trip to visit the Lodge.  With the larger than life totem poles, an amazing fireplace and gorgeous fixtures, you’ll want to set aside some time just to explore this area.  You’ll also find registration, the concierge, Whispering Canyon Cafe and the Mercantile gift shop.

Shopping and Sundries

Wilderness Lodge Mercantile is located in the main lobby and offers gifts, food and more and serves both the main resort, as well as the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.  Due to the villas, the Mercantile features more in terms of grocery items.

I will mention that I thought our room was in need of a little updating, especially the cheesy bedspread, and I’m happy to say the Wilderness Lodge did get a lovely soft goods face lift.  Guess we’ll have to pop in again to get some new shots!

Club Level

All Disney deluxe resorts offer club level accommodations. We really enjoy the extra services from the concierge staff, as well as the club lounge for a snack or drink throughout the day. Read here to decide if it’s worth it for your stay.

The club staff at Wilderness Lodge may be one of the best staffs on property.  While most club level cast members go the extra mile, the group at the Lodge was just fantastic!  I do have to apologize for the picturse here.  They’re from my old iPhone 3 (I know, right?!), and I can’t seem to find the raw images.  These have the old watermark, and I just can’t bear to kill the quality any more by cropping them off to add the new one.  Guess we’ll just have to force ourselves to stay club at Wilderness Lodge again so I can update these for you.  I’m a giver that way.

Dining

Wilderness Lodge gives guests some delicious options from which to choose!  Featuring a signature restaurant, fun family favorite and quick service, among others, there’s not shortage of places to nosh at the Lodge.  Just bring your plate and saddle up!  Not really.  They have plates.

Whispering Canyon Cafe

Do not come here if you’re lame.  I know that sounds mean, but, seriously.  Only book this restaurant if you’re ready to have a good time.  Yes, the servers can tone it down if you’re not up for antics, but that’s the whole point of this oxymoronically (that’s a word, right?) named restaurant. Come in ready to play and ready to grub, because the atmosphere is fun, and the food is delicious!  And that’s coming from a good ol’ chunky Oklahoma girl who knows her home cookin’!

Artist Point

Now home to the enchanting Storybook Dining with Snow White, Artist Point is a must-do for the OG princess fans!

Roaring Fork

At the end of a somewhat lengthy hallway off the main lobby sits Roaring Fork, your spot for a hot or cold breakfast, and sandwiches, pizza, salads and more for lunch or dinner.  Beer and wine are also available.

Geyser Point Bar and Grill

If you’re hanging by the pool and can’t make it to Roaring Fork for a drink, slip on over to the pool bar and grab one of their many cocktails to sip while the kids are getting out some energy. Just remember, it’s hot, you’re in public, and it would make for a really embarrassing story if you got belligerent at Disney.  Drink responsibly.  🙂  Also available at Wilderness Lodge’s latest addition is a full menu all day featuring lightly themed offerings such as maple pancakes and a bison cheeseburger.

With the opening of Geyser Point, Trout Pass Bar, pictured below, will be reimagined (rumor has it) into Spa by the Springs, a pool side spa offering mani/pedis and hair services. I’m in, are you?

Territory Lounge

Just off the main lobby near Artist Point you’ll find Territory Lounge, your morning java and muffin stop (unless you’re saving yourself for Magic Kingdom Starbucks).  In the evening, the lounge offers drinks and light fare.

Private Dining

Room service is available from 6:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. to midnight..

Recreation

With its water side location, Wilderness Lodge offers many aquatic activities from boat rentals to fishing excursions, and of course, the great pools at both the Lodge and Villas!

Bike rentals, both of the typical and surrey variety, a playground and jogging trails round out the more active recreation activities.

The Buttons and Bells arcade and evening campfire and Movie Under the Stars offer more mellow options.

If you’re looking to get to know your resort better, check out the Wonders of the Lodge tour on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. The tour meets at 9:00 A.M. in the lobby.

Another fun experience at the Wilderness Lodge is the opportunity to be the flag family of the day. Inquire about this at check-in, and you may get to raise the flag on top of the Lodge one morning during your stay!

Around the Resort

With so many Native artifacts sprinkled around the resort, Wilderness Lodge is a favorite of our family. It’s so neat to see items we, as Natives, have in our homes and use gracing the halls of the Lodge.  Definitely take some time to explore all of the nooks and crannies at this lovely resort!
