Once upon a time, months and months ago, I pinned a fun image that led to this explanation of SMASH*Books. I didn’t give it much thought, but while cleaning out my pins last month, I clicked it. Who knew that click would cost me so much!
I won’t go into price specifics, but I’m now the proud owner of more than a dozen of these babies and all the fun supplies to fill them. Yeah, when I find something I like, I usually go all in. (coughDisneycough)
You start with these perfectly sweet little books…
They’re filled with scrapbook-type pages covered in cute patterns, sayings, images and more.
This girl loves an empty notebook, but this takes it to a whole ‘nother level!! Pretty paper and fill-in-the-blanks. Yes. Sold. The best part about this is that there truly is no rhyme or reason for any of it. Of course, there can be, but for this control freak organizista, I can really let loose with these little beauties.
Here’s something else I love. They come with a pen/glue stick combo! How freaking smart!!! This means you can do it on the go, which is part of the reason I went nuts over these. I have a travel journal plan for them, and being able to take off with nothing but a notebook and pen is brilliant.
I’ve started a couple so far, but I’m going to share the one that is completely random because, like I said, that’s what I love about these!
So, what do you use to make the insides all prettyfied? The sky’s the limit, but scrapbook embellishments and washi tape seem to be the most popular choices. SMASH*Book, of course, makes a line of goodies to smash in your book, but get creative and see what strikes your fancy.
Man. Washi tape. Wish I’d never been introduced to this stuff. I’d seen washi, washi, washi all over Pinterest the last year or so but never really paid much attention. There was a roll of it in my first SMASH*Book bundle, and that was the end of me. It’s so much fun, and it always looks really cute! It’s also a nice non-permanent way to smash in your stuff. Change your mind? No problem? Want to reposition something? Easy peasy. Make tabs, create pockets, instant frames, you name it! And it comes in glitter. Enough said.
Have I hooked you yet? If so, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is, you can find SMASH*Book stuff on deep discounts at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s. Books that are normally $15 a pop or more can be found at these stores for around $6. Embellishments can be found there, too. The SMASH*aholics Facebook group (don’t join unless you want to be enabled and under a bad retail influence) is also reporting these on clearance at Michael’s. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. And that’s the bad news. Even at discounted prices, you’ll still be dropping some cash on these because you won’t be able to stop at one.
Now, you can absolutely make these yourself. After all, these immediately reminded me of notebooks from high school. Anyone else use extra composition books for this kinda thing? I know I did. Some people even go all out with binding machines and pretty paper. I think, though, I’d end up spending more money making my own than buying the pre-made ones at a discount. And I’d probably never finish it because I’d want it “just so” and never actually end up putting it all together.
If that sounds like you, and you’d rather get your feet wet with a ready-to-smash book,
this giveaway is for you! On my buying spree last month, I picked up an extra kit so one lucky reader can smash all of her (or his!) Christmas fun!
Sorry, friends, but this giveaway has ended. Never fear! It was so popular, and my impulse buying is so horrible that I can pretty much guarantee another SMASH*Book giveaway before summer, so keep an eye on the blog (subscribe over there on the sidebar so you don’t miss a post!!) over the next few months for more SMASH*ing fun!
That’s right, one of you will get this fabulous Christmas kit full of smashing fun!
Although according to The Fine Print entrants must be from the US to enter, I’m lifting that rule for this giveaway only. Because several of SMASH*aholics are not from the US and have trouble finding SMASH*Books locally, I’d like to include them. If the winner is outside the US, though, they must cover any shipping expense that exceeds the amount it would cost to send domestically. For example, if it costs $5 to ship to Kansas but $10 to ship to Norway, the winner must cover the $5 via PayPal. By entering the giveaway, you are agreeing to this stipulation.
Good luck, SMASH*aholics and future SMASH*aholics!
While we’re waiting to see who the lucky winner will be use the comments to tell us what you’ll be SMASH*ing in 2014!!
