When Stitchy turned the 6, I decided to go out-of-town for his birthday party and hoped his pals (and their parents) would follow. We chartered a water taxi on the Bricktown Canal, which is about a 30-minutes drive from our hometown. The taxi ran us almost $225 for the hour, and the boat held 40 people. This was the only party of his where RSVPs were of the utmost importance. I asked his friends to RSVP to receive a ticket to board and that no one would be able to ride without one. It worked out well, and a few of the parents stayed back at the playground, so we had a little extra room on the boat.
The water taxi comes with a captain, and he gave all of the kidlets some pirate gear for the trip. It runs the length of the Bricktown Canal, and the captain offers up little tidbits and trivia along the way.
The Bricktown Water Taxi offers complimentary tours during the holiday season to see the lights, but it only goes about halfway down the canal. The chartered cruise goes all the way to the end and back and allowed us to see some of the art that lines the water.

After the cruise, we all made our way to a playground just off the canal. Here we had pizza and homemade cupcakes. It was a gorgeous afternoon, so the kids played for almost an hour after eating. Even the parkour guys made their way to the playground. They definitely made an impression on the kids. Once the kids were thoroughly exhausted, Stitchy-poo attacked the gifts.
This was a great way to spend an afternoon. It was actually one of our more economical parties, as well. There was no cost to use the playground since nothing was provided (no pavilion or tables, etc.). We were told we could bring anything we needed, so we did bring a few folding chairs and a table for the gifts and food.
While I love an overly themed party, this was one of his favorite parties to date! It’s ok to take it easy, parents. 😉
