Our first big trip post-2020 took us to Walt Disney World, of course. However, being that it had been more than a year since our last vacation we decided to road trip it and stretch it out as long as possible. On our way to the mouse house, we stayed two nights on the road, one in New Orleans and one in Destin. As we made our way back home, we stopped for a night and enjoyed our first visit to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach! We’re Okies, and tons of our friends have made the easy trek to this Alabama hot spot, so I was excited to give it a try.

Hampton Inn & Suites Orange Beach Gulf Front

Being that we travel with a large party  (usually 6 or more), we often decide to utilize chain hotels for the abundance of suites available for families at decent rates. Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, our room at the Hampton featured gorgeous views and private beach access. The hotel is within a half-mile of shops and restaurants, and Gulf State Park and Adventure Island amusement park are within a five-minute drive. Included are a fitness center and heated outdoor pool with a tiki bar, as well as free hot breakfast and free parking.

Magic, Memories, Mayhem A Day in Gulf Shores Hampton Inn Orange Beach

Orange Beach

The beach access from our hotel was perfect! We were even able to see each other from the beach and balcony! The water was a little cool, but the waves were great and the family had a blast.

Lulu’s

We had the best time and some delicous food at Lulu’s Gulf Shores! Lulu’s is the brainchild of Lucy Buffett, the official “Crazy Sista” of the Buffett clan and little sister of Jimmy Buffett. The place is so much fun! Sandy play areas, shopping, music, food and more will keep you at this meal stop for a couple hours, at least.

Surf Shops

Like any good beach town, this one is full of surf shops. While Ron Jon is the mecca, there is no shortage of lower priced options along the beach roads full of “today only” t-shirt deals to suit your fancy.

Now that we’re in the know, we’ll definitely hit the area again for shorter beach trips or stop by on our way to Disney!
