Pools & Beach

Whether your idea of vacation is lounging under an umbrella with a tropical drink or taking a refreshing dip in the pool, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy the Hawaiian sunshine at Aulani. With no theme parks or typical Disney attractions nearby, the pools, lagoon and lazy river end up stealing the show.

If you’re looking to get up close and personal with marine life, Rainbow Reef is basically your “I want to snorkel in Hawaiʻi but also not wrestle the ocean” moment. It’s a private lagoon in the middle of the pool area filled with tropical fish, calm water and great memories.

For more adventure, snorkeling, paddleboarding and other ocean activities are also available with equipment for borrow and rental at Makiki Joe’s.

Recreation & Activities

Aulani offers much more than beautiful pools. Throughout the day, you’ll find activities designed to entertain, connect and immerse guests in Hawaiian culture.

Families can join hula and ʻukulele lessons, learn to make lei, listen to Hawaiian storytelling or take part in pool games and seasonal activities. Kids ages 4 to 12 can enjoy supervised fun at Aunty’s Beach House, while families can work together on the interactive Menehune Adventure Trail hidden throughout the resort.

Character meet and greets happen daily and are included with your stay while evenings often feature movie nights under the stars, live entertainment or the KA WA‘A Lū‘au (extra charge).

If you’re familiar with DVC resorts, you’ll already know all about Community Hall, or at Aulani, the Pau Hana Room. Here you’ll find crafts, activities and games throughout your stay. We had a great time flexing our creative muscles making our own Mickey and Minnie ears!

Make Your Own Ears

Reservations for this experience can be made in advance. As of publication, standard ears are $27, while lighted ears are $37.

Magical Tip: Bring a box or other rigid item, as the ears are very easily bent if stored in a bag or suitcase.

More Magic Tips

A few tips go a long way toward making your Aulani vacation even smoother.

  • Aulani is located in Ko Olina on Oʻahu, about 30 to 40 minutes from Honolulu International Airport. Ride share can get pricy, but car rental will set you back and incur nightly parking fees at the resort.
  • Dining reservations, spa appointments and the KA WA‘A Lū‘au can book up in advance, so be sure to keep an eye on your app for your booking window.
  • Check the Daily ʻIwa schedule and Aulani app for character times and daily activities.
  • Without a theme park to absorb some of the crowd, the resort can often feel very busy. Be sure to take some time to enjoy your room when it gets overwhelming. Common areas are bustling first thing in the morning (for the chair race!) and from lunchtime to check-in (noon to 4:00ish).

Aulani is one of those places where slowing down becomes part of the experience. Leave space for the unplanned moments like an extra sunset on the beach, one more lazy river loop or coffee on your lanai before the day starts. Those are often the memories that stick the longest.
