Wagon Rides

For a slower-paced way to explore Fort Wilderness, guests can hop aboard an old-fashioned wagon ride through the resort’s wooded trails. Pulled by draft horses, these 25-minute group rides offer a peaceful way to take in the scenery and enjoy a little extra Disney magic away from the parks.

Wagon rides operate on select evenings and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Holidays

December brings a whole new kind of magic to Fort Wilderness as campers transform their campsites, cabins and golf carts into a holiday wonderland. The creativity and festive spirit throughout the campground make a stroll around the resort a must-do seasonal tradition.

We’ve loved admiring the incredible decorations during our visits, although we’ll admit our photo collection is still missing some of the most impressive campsite displays. Sounds like we may need to make the sacrifice and return for more holiday research!

More Magic Tips

A few tips go a long way toward making your Fort Wilderness experience even more magical!

• Rent a golf cart if you can.
  A golf cart can completely change your Fort Wilderness experience. The campground is huge, and while Disney transportation is available, having your own wheels makes it much easier to explore, get to recreation, visit dining locations and enjoy the resort at your own pace. Plus, cruising the trails is part of the Fort Wilderness magic!
• Plan at least one resort day.
  Fort Wilderness is not a “sleep here after the parks” kind of resort. Between the trails, pools, activities, dining, campfires and exploring, this is a destination all on its own. Build in time to enjoy the resort instead of rushing off to the parks every morning.

• Take time to explore the campsites.
  One of the most unique parts of Fort Wilderness is the creativity of the guests who call it home for their Disney vacation. While the winter holidays are famous for incredible campsite displays, the magic happens year-round. Halloween decorations, themed setups and creative touches for all kinds of celebrations can turn a simple walk around the campground into an attraction of its own. Visiting during a holiday season? Bring your own decorations and join the fun! Guests in campsites and cabins alike are welcome to add their own touches and become part of the community that makes this resort so special.

Our Take on Fort Wilderness

We absolutely love Fort Wilderness, but it’s important to understand that this is a different kind of Disney vacation. This isn’t a resort where you rush in after a park day, grab a snack in the lobby and head up to your room. Fort Wilderness invites you to slow down, explore, relax and enjoy the magic happening all around you.

The space, the peaceful trails, the outdoor recreation and the slower pace all create an experience you won’t find anywhere else at Walt Disney World. There’s a real sense of community here that makes Fort Wilderness feel less like a hotel and more like a neighborhood. Guests connect through online groups, chat with neighbors around the campground and share the experience in a way that feels surprisingly welcoming.

During one of our stays, a cabin neighbor was checking out and passed along a cooler full of food and supplies they couldn’t take with them. Instead of letting those items go to waste, they shared them with fellow guests — a small act of kindness that perfectly captures the spirit of Fort Wilderness.
