Welcome back to another Disney Tip Tuesday, our (aspirational) weekly bite-sized blog post offering up a fun tip for visiting your favorite Disney destinations. This week, we’re tackling plans for those summer storms at Walt Disney World.
First, it’s important to know that it rains every day in the summer. That doesn’t mean every day is a wash out, but it’s always good to be prepared.
Our main tip to you is to hang out in the parks. Rain will often send a lot of guests packing and headed back to their resort. But, here’s the deal, many times the storm doesn’t last long at all. You could hop in line for an indoor attraction, grab a quick service snack or watch a show, and by the time you’re back outside the storm has moved on.
And if you do decide it’s a good time for a hotel break, I still encourage you to wait a beat. Transportation will be packed with wet, probably annoyed people. Let it thin out a bit, then make your way.
Preparing for the Rain
- Pack plenty of ponchos. Rather than lugging around a rain coat in what is usually a very warm location, consider a smaller poncho that you can throw in a bag. You can also throw those babies on for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure or Kali River Rapids or use one to cover your stroller in a pinch.
- Umbrellas are great for sun and rain. Hold them outside of your park bag when coming through security, though. It will absolutely set off the detector, and you’ll lose some time getting the Disney World pat down.
- Lightning will cause ride closures. While the show must go on if it’s just a shower, lightning will close down some attractions.
You don’t have to let storms rain on your parade at the parks (in fact, we’ve watched many a parade in the rain!). As long as you’re prepped with a couple on ponchos and a good attitude, the magic can continue.
