Old Key West

Walt Disney World

A Little Slice of Disney Paradise

After years of Disney trips, we finally did it — we completed our Disney resort challenge! 🎉

For your benefit, of course 😉, we stayed at every Disney-owned and operated resort at Walt Disney World and lived to tell the tale. Our final stop? Disney’s Old Key West Resort.

Honestly, we’re not sure why we waited so long. Old Key West surprised us with its relaxed atmosphere, spacious accommodations and friendly, laid-back island feel. It’s a completely different pace from many Walt Disney World resorts, and if you’re looking for a true home-away-from-home vibe, this one deserves a closer look.

    More Magic Tips

A few tips go a long way toward the ease and magic of your Old Key West vacation!

    • Having your own car at Old Key West is a game changer. Being able to park right outside your villa, skip the internal resort buses and make a quick drive over to the Hospitality House for food, supplies or a little exploring is a major time saver.

    • Be a little needy. If you’d rather leave the driving at home, consider requesting a room near the Hospitality House. Buildings 23–26 and 62–64 are located in this area, putting you within easy walking distance of the main pool, dining locations and the main bus stop.

    • Free fun at Community Hall is super easy! For a little extra fun, head over to Conch Flats Community Hall for free video games, ping-pong, foosball and board games. You can even borrow board games to enjoy back at your villa.

    • Get your sweat on…some more. For those who think Florida heat isn’t quite enough, there’s a hidden sauna tucked inside the giant red and white lighthouse near the Sandcastle Pool. (Yes, really. A sauna in Florida. Disney magic works in mysterious ways. 😉)

    • Get expert help to make the most of Old Key West. That’s where we come in. Our concierge planning services are absolutely free when you book through our travel agency, and we’ll help you find the resort that matches your vacation style.

Our Take on Old Key West

Old Key West has a way of pulling you into that laid-back Key West charm. Even this Type A planner mama found herself relaxing a little, which is saying something! The slower pace, spacious villas and friendly atmosphere make it feel like a true vacation escape.

We also love that Old Key West is often included in promotions, because who doesn’t love a good Disney deal? The villas are especially appealing for larger families or groups, giving you extra space while potentially saving money by avoiding the need for multiple rooms and offering the convenience of a full kitchen.

One of our favorite things about Old Key West is the community. The Old Key West fan community is full of helpful, friendly people online, and that same welcoming spirit carries over when you’re actually at the resort and happen to cross paths with fellow guests.

The one trade-off? The separate buildings and spread-out layout can make the resort feel a little less connected to the classic Disney bubble. For us, it’s not the most immersive Disney experience, but it absolutely delivers when you’re looking for comfort, space and a place to slow down after busy park days.
