Disney World Resorts Ranked
From a family who has stayed at every Disney owned and operated hotel at Walt Disney World
Yes, we stayed at every Disney hotel…for you!
Okay, maybe not only for you. I am a Disney mama, after all. But one of my favorite parts of being a Disney travel planner is experiencing these resorts firsthand so I can help my guests choose the right home base for their vacation.
This ranking is my personal take after looking at these resorts through two lenses: as a guest who loves a magical Disney vacation and as a travel agent who helps Disney dreamers decide where they want to spend their hard-earned vacation dollars.
I’ve experienced these resorts in all kinds of ways — family vacations, friend weekends, work weeks and even solo stays. And let me tell you, the resort that is perfect for one trip might not be the right fit for another. A family with little ones may prioritize totally different things than a couple celebrating an anniversary. A first-time visitor may want the classic Disney feel, while a frequent guest may be looking for convenience, space or something new.
Before we get into the rankings, one important disclaimer: this is our list. Your favorite resort might be somewhere completely different, and that’s the fun of Disney! There is no single “best” Walt Disney World resort because every crew, budget and vacation style has different priorities.
Some of these resorts ranked high because they made me feel like I was stepping into the magic the second I arrived. Others ranked lower because while they are still great resorts, they didn’t give me that extra little something I personally look for in a Disney stay.
So whether you’re planning your first Walt Disney World vacation, trying to decide if it’s worth upgrading to a deluxe resort or just curious where your favorite landed, let’s get into my ranking of every Disney-owned and operated resort at Walt Disney World.
A quick note on how I ranked these resorts: When a resort has multiple accommodation options under the same Disney resort umbrella, I grouped them together rather than ranking each section separately. For example, Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower are part of the same overall resort experience, so they are ranked together. The same applies to other shared resort properties. This ranking is focused on the overall resort experience you can expect as a guest.
#1: Polynesian Village
Resort Category: Deluxe
Best For: Families, couples, monorail lovers, first-time visitors, fireworks fans
What We Love:
- Incredible atmosphere with beautiful tropical grounds
- Spacious, comfortable rooms
- King Kamehameha club lounge
Keep in Mind:
- One of the most expensive resorts on property
- The main pool can feel small for the number of guests
- Evening crowds can make the resort feel busy
My Favorite Little Detail:
The soft background music wafting through the property
Would We Stay Again?
Absolutely. Every resort has drawbacks, but Polynesian is the one we keep coming back to. Between the location, atmosphere and nostalgia (and being Polynesian!), it delivers that unmistakable Disney feeling. It’s spendy, but when the budget allows, this is our favorite place to call home.
#2: Beach Club
Resort Category: Deluxe
Best For: Epcot lovers, families, pool enthusiasts
What We Love:
- Bright, airy atmosphere that immediately feels like vacation
- Incredible location near Epcot and Hollywood Studios
- Stormalong Bay is our favorite pool complex at Walt Disney World
Keep in Mind:
- Premium price tag
- Those hallways seem to go on forever after a long park day
- Stormalong Bay is awesome but can be very crowded in the heat of the day
My Favorite Little Detail:
Sitting on the beach watching the lights of the Boardwalk reflect on Crescent Lake
Would We Stay Again?
Without question. The combination of location and Stormalong Bay makes Beach Club one of the easiest resorts to recommend. If it fit every budget, I’d probably book it a whole lot more often.
#3: BoardWalk Inn
Resort Category: Deluxe
Best For: Adults, couples, foodies, nightlife lovers
What We Love:
- The BoardWalk comes alive every evening with performers and entertainment
- Easy walk or boat ride to Epcot and Hollywood Studios
- Fun atmosphere that still feels family-friendly
Keep in Mind:
- One of the pricier options on property
- Quick-service dining is scattered throughout the Boardwalk instead of one convenient location
- Long hallways can be exhausting after a full park day
My Favorite Little Detail:
A lake view room with a balcony in the evenings
Would I Stay Again?
Absolutely. The location is incredible, but what really earns it this spot is that the fun doesn’t end when you leave the parks.
#4: Animal Kingdom Lodge
Resort Category: Deluxe
Best For: Animal lovers, families, foodies, slower-paced vacations
What We Love:
- Savanna view rooms are unlike anything else at Disney
- Wonderful cultural activities and experiences
- Often one of the best values among Deluxe Resorts
Keep in Mind:
- Savanna view rooms can be pricy, but there are often promotions here.
- Bus transportation is the only Disney transportation option
- It feels farther from most destinations on property aside from Animal Kingdom
My Favorite Little Detail:
Waking up to wandering giraffes
Would We Stay Again?
Definitely, but only with a savanna view. That’s what makes this resort truly special. While there are numerous common spaces to watch the animals, the true magic for us here is the view from the balcony.
#5: Art of Animation
Category: Value
Best For: Families with young children, larger families, Disney movie fans
What We Love:
- Spacious family suites
- Incredible theming and photo opportunities
- Landscape of Flavors food court
Keep in Mind:
- Crowded common areas
- Rooms don’t have a lot of closet storage (and actually don’t have real closets)
- Although it’s a value resort, family suites will come in around moderate resort prices
y Favorite Little Detail:
Walking through Radiator Springs after dark
Would We Stay Again?
Yes, especially when traveling with the cousins. The extra space is great!
#6: Yacht Club
Category: Deluxe
Best For: EPCOT lovers, adults, families wanting the best pool
What We Love:
- Comfortable, lavish-feel rooms
- Fantastic and friendly staff
- Stormalong Bay is a whole day in itself
Keep in Mind:
- Can be price prohibitive
- Long , winding hallways after a day in the parks can be tiring
- Can feel a bit stuffy when compared to the Beach Club
My Favorite Little Detail:
The lobby scent
Would We Stay Again?
Definitely. Beach Club is my favorite of the sisters, but Yacht is still one of Disney’s best resorts.
#7: Port Orleans French Quarter
Category: Moderate
Best For: Couples, young adults, families with young children
What We Love:
- The small, intimate feel of the resort, especially when compared to its sister Riverside
- One word: beignets
- Charming New Orleans atmosphere with fun Mardi Gras touches
Keep in Mind:
- We don’t often see discounted rooms here because it fills up easily
- Aside from the beignets, the food court is mid
- Boat transportation is available to Disney Springs, but everything else is bus-bound
My Favorite Little Detail:
The Mardi Gras touches from beads to the annual parade
Would We Stay Again?
We’ve only stayed here once but visited dozens of times. It feels cozy without feeling small, and it’s one of Disney’s most overlooked gems. If it popped up more often in my promo searches, we’d absolutely stay again.
#8: Wilderness Lodge
Category: Deluxe
Best For: Nature lovers, Christmas trips, multigenerational trips
What We Love:
- Wonderful pool area with great features and dining
- Prices are lower for a Magic Kingdom area deluxe resort
- Native-inspired and authentic Native design details
Keep in Mind:
- Boat transportation is lovely but can take a minute, so factor that in for reservations
- Standard rooms are smaller than its other Magic Kingdom counterparts
- Standard rooms aren’t often discounted, but villas pop up more often in promotions
My Favorite Little Detail:
Whispering Canyon Cafe and the lobby during the holidays
Would We Stay Again?
Any time. It feels peaceful while still keeping you close to Magic Kingdom.
#9: Contemporary
Category: Deluxe
Best For: Magic Kingdom convenience, monorail fans, families with younger kids who will spend most of their time in the castle park
What We Love:
- Walking to Magic Kingdom
- Although contemporary, there’s still a lot of nostalgia here
- Incredible views of Magic Kingdom
Keep in Mind:
- Doesn’t feel especially Disney
- Pools are average
- Tower evacuation at 3 a.m. with toddlers is… memorable. Most other resorts are three or four stories. Contemporary is not.
My Favorite Little Detail:
Watching the monorail glide through the Grand Canyon Concourse
Would We Stay Again?
Yes, but mostly because of the location. For me, the convenience outweighs the atmosphere.
#10: Fort Wilderness
Category: Moderate
Best For: Campers, large families, outdoor lovers
What We Love:
- Spacious cabins with a full kitchen
- Golf cart transportation
- Recreation options galore make for great resort days out of the parks
Keep in Mind:
- Bring a golf cart or car for easier navigation to and from the parks
- Doesn’t have the traditional resort feel
- Recreation options are mostly only accessible on foot or golf cart
My Favorite Little Detail:
Guest decorations during the holidays (and I mean ALL the holidays)
Would We Stay Again?
You bet. The cabins pop up often under promotions, and it ends up being a pretty decent value for all the space.
#11: Caribbean Beach
Resort Category: Moderate
Best For: Skyliner fans, families, bargain hunters
What We Love:
- Skyliner access is a huge perk
- Sebastian’s Bistro is one of Disney’s best hidden gem restaurants
- Fireworks views from several areas around the resort
Keep in Mind:
- The resort is massive, so Skyliner convenience depends on where your room is
- The reimagined lobby location can feel a little confusing if it’s your first visit
- Be prepared for a lot of walking
My Favorite Little Detail:
The sounds of nature at night
Would We Stay Again?
If the price is right. While the size can be inconvenient, I’d happily stay here again, especially if I could request a room in a convenient location or had my own vehicle.
#12: Coronado Springs
Resort Category: Moderate
Best For: Adults, couples, conference attendees, guests wanting a deluxe feel on a moderate budget
What We Love:
- The only Moderate Resort with Club Level
- Calmer atmosphere thanks to the conference crowd
- Central location keeps bus rides relatively short once you’re on your way
Keep in Mind:
- Internal bus loop can add time before you even leave the resort
- Dining is good but doesn’t quite wow me
- Doesn’t have quite as much Disney whimsy as some other resorts
My Favorite Little Detail:
The difference in vibe between the tower and the casitas
Would We Stay Again?
If I can snag a deal, especially on a club room. The tower is definitely my preference when at Coronado.
#13: Grand Floridian
Resort Category: Deluxe
Best For: Magic Kingdom vacations, holiday trips, guests wanting classic Disney elegance
What We Love:
- Fantastic transportation options to Magic Kingdom
- Elegant without feeling stuffy
- Gorgeous during the holidays
Keep in Mind:
- Gift shops are spread across multiple floors
- The lobby can get crowded with both guests and visitors
- I will really miss the gingerbread house during the holidays (that birdcage bar is ruining the lobby vibes)
My Favorite Little Detail:
Strawberry soup at 1900 Park Fare
Would We Stay Again?
If someone asks. While it isn’t my favorite Magic Kingdom resort, the location and timeless atmosphere still make my magical little heart smile.
#14: Old Key West
Resort Category: Deluxe Villa
Best For: Larger families, longer vacations, guests who like extra space
What We Love:
- Spacious villas with full kitchens
- Fun pool areas throughout the resort
- Parking right outside many buildings
Keep in Mind:
- Can feel disconnected from the rest of Walt Disney World
- Bus transportation isn’t my favorite
- Resort is spread out
My Favorite Little Detail:
The community feel among guests; there’s pretty big Facebook community, and they organize things like stroller shares, passing on supplies, etc.
Would We Stay Again?
If we had a larger group that wanted to stay together. It isn’t the most convenient location, but the space and comfort make it a great option for big parties.
#15: All-Star Sports
Resort Category: Value
Best For: Budget travelers, sports families, youth teams
What We Love:
- Often has the lowest prices on Disney property
- Fun opportunities to meet other guests
- The football field is perfect for impromptu pickup games
Keep in Mind:
- Bus transportation is just okay
- Small guest rooms
- Pools can get crowded and don’t include slides or hot tubs
My Favorite Little Detail:
Laying on the grass watching my kids play with other guests on the football field
Would We Stay Again?
My youngest son loves it, so yes. Would I be hanging with the jocks on a solo trip? Probably not.
#16: Riviera
Resort Category: Deluxe Villa
Best For: Couples, Skyliner fans, guests who prefer modern luxury
What We Love:
- Beautiful views from the rooms and Topolino’s
- Excellent quick-service dining
- Skyliner access is great
Keep in Mind:
- Doesn’t feel particularly “Disney” to me
- Lacks the cozy feeling I look for in a resort
- Gift shop is surprisingly small
My Favorite Little Detail:
Treats from Le Petit Cafe
Would We Stay Again?
Probably, but it wouldn’t be near the top of my list. Riviera is undeniably beautiful, but when I’m staying at Disney, I want a little more Disney magic than this resort gives me.
.
#17: Port Orleans Riverside
Resort Category: Moderate
Best For: Families, recreation lovers, Disney Springs visitors
What We Love:
- Lots of recreation and activities for a rest day
- The Sassagoula River cruise to Disney Springs is just gorgeous
- Boatwright’s is an underrated comfort food restaurant
Keep in Mind:
- Huge resort with lots of walking
- The Quick service food court is just ok
- Doesn’t personally wow me the way French Quarter does
My Favorite Little Detail:
The Fishin’ Hole and the Boatwright’s fruit bar
Would We Stay Again?
Sure. Riverside is a lovely resort and I completely understand why it’s a fan favorite. For me, though, French Quarter is the prettier sister.
#18: Saratoga Springs
Resort Category: Deluxe Villa
Best For: Larger families, Disney Springs fans, longer stays
What We Love:
- Spacious villas with full kitchens and jet tubs
- Walking distance to Disney Springs for impromptu shopping trips or dinner
- Often excellent promotional pricing
Keep in Mind:
- Spread out resort
- Bus transportation can be time-consuming
- The horse racing theme just isn’t my personal style
My Favorite Little Detail:
The hustle and bustle of Disney Springs in the distance
Would We Stay Again?
I wouldn’t not stay there, but it’s not usually on my radar.
#19: Pop Century
Resort Category: Value
Best For: Skyliner users, first-time visitors, budget-conscious families
What We Love:
- Skyliner access is always a win
- Easy walk to Art of Animation
- We love a low-priced queen (at least by Disney standards)
Keep in Mind:
- Small rooms are not my fave
- Didn’t personally connect with the theme as much as many guests do
- Can get busy
My Favorite Little Detail:
I do adore the decades themes and wish they had continued with the earlier years, but then we wouldn’t have Art of Animation.
Would We Stay Again?
If I must. This one is going to make people recall my Disney card, but it just doesn’t have the same charm for me that it seems to have for everyone else.
#20: All-Star Movies
Resort Category: Value
Best For: Young children, first-time Disney families, movie lovers
What We Love:
- Larger-than-life Disney icons
- Great atmosphere for younger kids
- Fun, recognizable movie themes
Keep in Mind:
- Bus transportation is average
- Food court is fine but forgettable
- Pools can get crowded and don’t include slides or hot tubs
My Favorite Little Detail:
The giant icons are just so much fun
Would We Stay Again?
If someone else wants to. Even though it ranks lower for me overall, the theming is some of the most playful and unmistakably Disney anywhere on property.
#21: All-Star Music
Resort Category: Value
Best For: Budget travelers, larger parties needing family suites, music lovers
What We Love:
- Fun musical themes throughout the different sections
- Slightly obscure nods to musicians and theater kids
- Family suites offer a more affordable option for larger groups
Keep in Mind:
- Bus transportation is average
- Small standard rooms with litte storage
- Food court is just okay
My Favorite Little Detail:
As a musical theater kid, The Last Five Years playing in the Broadway section
Would We Stay Again?
On a whim, maybe. There’s nothing wrong with it, it just doesn’t have a standout feature that pulls me back over the others.
The Best Disney Resort Is the One That Fits Your Family
After staying at every Disney owned and operated resort at Walt Disney World, I can confidently say there is no single “best” resort.
The resort I rank #1 might not be your #1, and that’s the fun part. Some families want the nostalgia and convenience of the monorail resorts. Some want over-the-top theming that makes the kidlets light up before they ever reach the parks. Some want extra space, a great pool day or the best value for their vacation budget.
The “right” Disney resort is the one that matches how your family actually vacations.
And that’s why I love helping families sort through all these choices. Because sometimes the resort that looks perfect on paper isn’t the one that will make your trip feel the most magical.
So if you’re staring at 20+ resort options wondering where to even start… I get it. There are a lot of choices. Luckily, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
But we are wondering what your #1 would be… Tell us in the comments!
